Donations

We are small, local charity and we receive no government funding. Our work can only continue with the support of the public.

It costs a considerable amount for us to keep going.  Our annual food, litter and vets bills alone amount to over £100,000.

Each and every donation makes a difference. On average, we spend over £100 on each cat that comes through our doors before that cat finds its forever home....but just £3 allows us to care for one cat for one day at our shelter.  So big or small, each donation is critical.

There are many different way in which you can donate - click on the drop down boxes below for more details.

You can make an online donation, safely and securely, via BT myDonate. We have chosen this service to be our main online donation facility because they have the lowest fees, meaning that the maximum possible amount of your donation will go to help the cats.

You can choose to make a one-off donation, or a regular (e.g. monthly) donation.

You will be asked whether you would like us to claim gift-aid on your donation – if you are a UK tax payer this allows us to increase the value of your donation by 25% at no extra cost to you.

A donation to LCR made in the name of that special cat-loving person in your life makes a lovely gift. For a minimum donation of £10 we can give you a Certificate of Donation to give to your loved one. Certificates can be purchased in person from our Shelter.

Alternatively, please email us at fundraising@lothiancatrescue.org  if you’d like to make your donation via our online donation facility, sending us the following information:

We endeavour to process donations as quickly as possible, but suggest you allow two weeks for your certificate to arrive at its destination.

Would you consider leaving us a gift in your will?

A legacy gift, no matter how large or small, could mean that when a cat needs us in the future we will be here to help them, or even save their life.

With your help, by giving a gift in your will, we can maintain and update our facilities, provide veterinary treatment and provide food and shelter for cats that come into our care. We can then ensure we find loving homes for them, or provide a home at the shelter or in a sponsor home for those with health or behavioural issues.

We realise that leaving us a gift in your will is a very personal decision. With your help and support we can continue our vital work.

Some employers, companies or personal pension providers run a Payroll Giving scheme allowing you to donate straight from your wages or pension. Donations are taken before tax, which means that a charity gets more of your donation and it costs you less. It also means that we don’t have to claim Gift Aid, so there’s less administration for us. Ask your employer or pension provider if they offer payroll giving.

Our Shelter is delighted to receive donations which help us care for our cats. These include food, litter, litter trays, food and water bowls, bedding and cleaning materials.

If you can’t visit but would like to sent a physical donation, do take a look at our wishlists.

We’re also very happy to receive donations of goods to help keep our shop well stocked. Bric-a-brac, especially, is always needed, as well as clothes, jewellery, books and household items.

Gift Aid

If you're a UK taxpayer, Gift Aid increases the value of your donations by 25%, because we can reclaim the basic rate of tax on your gift – at no extra cost to you.

The online donation facility asks you to complete a section about gift aid.

If you plan to donate cash or a cheque directly to the shelter and you would like Gift Aid to apply, please download and complete a Gift Aid declaration and hand it in to us along with your donation.

If you are making a donation in person at our Shelter, please ask for a Gift Aid Declaration.
